NEW YORK— A new book has come out claiming that nature has a very important part to play in the making of a great city.
In The Good Nature: Nature’s Way of Life in America, published this month by the University of North Carolina Press, the author, David M. Riedel, a professor of geography and urban planning at the university, says that cities have a unique ability to make people happy and make people healthy.
According to the book, cities, like a good garden, provide a healthy environment, good for both people and the planet.
In a new video interview with the Associated Press, Rieden talks about his book.
“The good nature of the human body, for example, makes the human mind thrive, and it makes us feel good.
It gives us energy,” he said.
He added, “We’re not born with a mind of our own, and so we have to be in a state of being with others, whether that’s through a garden, or through nature.”
The Good Nature is a book about the nature of human life, said Riedeel.
It’s also a book for urban planners, which is where he thinks he might find his next job.
“I’m interested in the human condition as it relates to nature,” Riedehl said.
Riedel has studied urban planning for decades.
He earned a master’s degree in urban planning from the University the same year that he published his book, and has been writing about the city ever since.
In a previous interview with NPR, Riehl described his interest in urban design as a form of education.
“There’s a lot of good reasons to be involved in this, and we have a responsibility to create a more prosperous and healthier society,” he told the radio station.
“It’s the humanistic value of nature that I see, and that’s something I’d like to see in this book.”
Riehl has also been teaching his classes about nature and the natural world at colleges and universities around the country.
